The word Navratri is derived from the Sanskrit word, which means 'nine nights', during these nine nights and ten days, nine forms of Shakti/Devi are worshipped. Navratri is celebrated four times a year. It is celebrated from Pratipada to Navami in the months of Pausha, Chaitra, Ashadh and Ashwin.

Sindhi new year starts from Chaitra Shukla Dwitiya. Which is known as Chetichand. Chaitra month is called Chet in Sindhi and the moon is called Chandu, hence Chetichand means the moon of Chaitra. This festival of Chetichand is also known as Cheti Chand and Jhulelal Jayanti.
